Size Your PaperStep 1. Size your Paper

  • To measure the length: Wrap a piece of ribbon around the longest edge of your box and add 2". To determine the width, place the box on the table and measure the depth (from the table to the top of the box). Double this measurement and add the width of the box. Cut your gift wrap to size. Lay the box, bottom facing up, centered on the unfinished side of the paper.

Step 2. Creating a Seamless Edge

  • 2a. Fold the left edge 1/2 ” and crease with your bone folder. Bring the fold you just created to the edge of the box and tape the flap to the package.
  • 2b.Wrap the remaining paper around the box. Pinch the paper over the edge where the flap is taped down so that you can get a line of the edge of the box. Fold the paper under to hide the paper’s raw edge.
  • 2c. Place strips of double sided tape along the edge of the box and pull the paper to the edge.

Step 3. Folding in the Sides

dFolding The Sides 3d eFolding The Sides 3e fFolding The Sides 3f

  • 3a. Fold the edges of the paper in, creating a 45 degree fold in the bottom part of the paper. Do this on both sides of the box.
  • 3b. Flip the box over and repeat for the top part of the box on both ends of the box. Flip the box back over so that the seam is facing up.
  • 3c. Put a strip of double sided tape on the inside of the flap on the top. Press flap down and repeat on the other side.
  • 3d. To have the flaps meet exactly in the middle of the side of the box, bring the bottom flap up and fold the paper back at the point where the two flaps meet.
  • 3e. Fold the crease you just created inward, to hide the raw edge of the paper, and put a strip of double sided tape on the edge.
  • 3f. Pull up and press to the package. Repeat on the opposite side.

Size Your PaperStep 4. Crease each Edge

  • Crease each edge of the box. This gives your package a very clean and crisp appearance and makes a big difference in the finished look of the gift!

Step 5. Adding Ribbon

  • First, to size your ribbon, make sure that it can wrap around the gift box twice and add 18-20" for a simple bow. You may need more or less ribbon depending on the size and shape of the box.

  • 5a. Begin by placing the ribbon under the wrapped package. One side will be left long and the other will be slightly longer than the top of the package. Hold the shorter length in place while bringing the longer piece around the top.
  • 5b. Cross the two ribbons at the top and wrap the longer piece of ribbon around the other side of the box, around the bottom and back up to the top.
  • 5c. Tuck the ribbon that was just wrapped around the bottom of the package, under the twist and create a knot.
  • 5d. Create a bow by tying the ribbon just like you would tie your shoe.
